چکیده
Non-native freshwater fishes have been introduced to Guatemalan ecosystems since the beginning of last century without prior risk assessment or subsequent evaluation their impacts. We synthesized historical records, and distributional data from a literature review, online databases museum records non-native in Guatemala. found for 22 with oldest dating back 1926. were recorded 64% river sub-basins Guatemala we identified that at least 12 species established populations. The Jaguar guapote ( Parachromis managuensis ) Tilapias Oreochromis spp.) are most widespread fishes. indicates they human selected (e.g., farming purposes). Our work shows aquaculture has major driver introductions country, but aquarium release become an important source 20 years. Given potential impact on native fauna ecosystems, highlight urgent need assess ecological effects, as well establish fish monitoring program detect new introductions. Government non-governmental agencies should promote use supply demands alignment environmental policies objectives fishing agency

The global species extinction crisis has provided the impetus for elaborate translocation, captive breeding, and cloning programs, but more extreme actions may be necessary. We used mitochondrial DNA, Y-chromosome, and nuclear lactoferrin-encoding gene sequencing to identify a wild population of a pure-strain endangered bovid (Bos javanicus) introduced into northern Australia over 150 years ago...
متن کاملComparative mtDNA phylogeography of neotropical freshwater fishes: testing shared history to infer the evolutionary landscape of lower Central America.
Historical biogeography seeks to explain contemporary distributions of taxa in the context of intrinsic biological and extrinsic geological and climatic factors. To decipher the relative importance of biological characteristics vs. environmental conditions, it is necessary to ask whether groups of taxa with similar distributions share the same history of diversification. Because all of the taxa...
